Summer Treatment Program

Hello everyone,

There will be a unique training experience for students, which will be held this summer at Florida International University in Miami, FL, through the Center for Children and Families.  The Summer Treatment Program (STP) is a world-renowned, intensive, behavioral treatment program for youth with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, which utilizes a recreational and sport-focused curriculum.  Children in the STP receive eight hours per day of intensive treatment using evidence-based behavior modification methods in a fun camp environment, including social skills training, two hours per day of academics, coaching in various sports, and swimming. Children are grouped with their same-age peers in groups of 12-15 campers with a 3:1 camper to counselor ratio. Click here for more detailed information on the program. In addition to providing treatment for the children and families we serve, they are also dedicated to staff training. The majority of the staff have come from educational and training institutions across the country, and think that this will provide students with a unique training experience.  They encourage all applications from interested individuals.

CV/personal statement workshop

How to Write a Curriculum Vitae and Personal Statement

Psi Chi and the Psychology Department will be presenting this workshop to help students learn more about how to create a curriculum vitae and a personal statement.  These items are required to get into graduate school and are used to screen applicants. It is important to know what to include (and not include) in these documents.   This workshop will be on Tuesday, February 7th from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. in the Lake Michigan Room in the Oakland Center.  This event is FREE and open to all Oakland University students. FREE FOOD AND DRINKS will be provided for all attendees of this event. Contact Rachel at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Attention - Officers Wanted!

Psi Chi is currently looking for dedicated students who would be interested in holding an officer's position. Currently all the positions (Secretary, Major Workshops, Mini Workshops, Treasurer, Communications, Colloquiums, Philanthropy, Technology.) are open for application. Duties would range depending on the position. However, nearly all the positions would involve working closely with faculty in the Psychology department, communicating with SAFB and Chartwells (or possibly outside vendors), making fliers, and writing a small summary of particular Psi Chi sponsored events. For a full description of every position, the current officers would be more happy to answer any of your questions, and their contact information can be found in the upper right corner of this page under "Contact Us." For those students looking to apply to graduate school, having an officer's position and upholding its responsibilities would look great on a C.V. This would also offer an excellent opportunity to improve your leadership skills and work on a more professional level with some of the faculty members.

Please feel free to speak to or e-mail any Psi Chi officer about any additional information!

tutoring

We would like to inform you of an opportunity to become more involved in Psi Chi and to add experience to your CV: tutoring.  We will be offering students in Psychology courses free tutoring run on an on-call basis.  If you are a current Psi Chi member and have taken a Psychology course at OU that you think you could tutor students in, let us know!  Please contact Thomas Butler, Vice-President and Officer of Research Colloquia for Psi Chi at Oakland University, at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and provide the following information: your name, email address, phone number, which course(s) you would like to tutor for, who you previously took the course with, when you are available on an on-call basis, where you would like to meet with students once appointments are made, and the method you would like for students to contact you by.

Liaisons still needed

Class Liaisons Still Needed!

Psi Chi is looking for class liaisons to make announcements in psychology classes this semester.  You don’t have to be a member of Psi Chi to volunteer for this position.  It’s a great way to get involved with Psi Chi and the Psychology Department if you are interested though! These positions require only one short announcement each week to remind students about upcoming events.  We need a liaison for each psychology class, so if you are interested, please email Jessica Nagorka at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Please include the class, professor, day and time that you would like to volunteer for.

Not into public speaking?  We are also looking for volunteers to post flyers advertising Psi Chi events. We are looking for volunteers to put the flyers in various buildings around campus. The buildings that we still need volunteers for are Dodge Hall, Science and Engineering Building and Hannah Hall

If you would like to take responsibility for one of the buildings, email Jessica at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Counseling Center Volunteer 2

Volunteer Opportunity with the OU Counseling Center

The director of the OU Counseling Center is looking for Psychology majors who would like the opportunity to get volunteer experience.  At the Counseling Center, they offer a variety of screenings and workshops throughout the year and are always looking for motivated students to help them out.  In exchange they have offered to train students on their screening instruments and answer any other questions you may have about graduate school, a psychology career, etc.  This is a great opportunity for any student who is thinking of applying to graduate schools as it is an excellent experience to have on your vita/resume and will help separate yourself from other students.  Interested students should contact Dr. Schwartz at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  This volunteer option is coming up on Wednesday, January 18th from 11a.m.-1p.m. (training begins at 10 a.m.).  He will only be taking the first 10 people who contact him for the Depression/Anxiety Screening, so if you are interested be sure to contact him immediately.  Similar opportunities will be coming up in February and March for those of you who may not get the chance this time, so watch for upcoming announcements!
